Haggard Custom Siding Inc (HCSI) is a second and third generation, family owned and operated company, dedicated to customer service and satisfaction. If you don’t believe that, just go ask any of their hundreds of satisfied customers in and around Duquoin. HCSI incorporated in 2003 but has been serving southern Illinois since 1979. They are a hands on company that is backed with years of experience and take pride in their name and workmanship. They specialize in siding, windows, doors, fascia and soffit systems and are known for their craftsmanship doing brake work, which is bending aluminum which is used for wrapping windows, doors and trim that sets their work off.

They belong to the Home Builders Association of Southern Illinois and take pride in educating the consumer and protecting them from home repair fraud. Some tips they suggest the public be aware of are the following: Always get a written estimate from a reputable company; Check references on previous work done by a company you are thinking of doing business with; ask how long they have been in the business: don’t be afraid to ask for names and phone numbers and call them and take a close up look at their work; ask to have a copy of their certificate for liability and workers compensation insurance before you sign a contract and call the insurance company to make sure it is still in force. It is a practice of some handy men to get a certificate and then not keep it paid up, which cancels the policy. Some will also get a policy and sign off on it if they own the company, leaving you at risk. If all of the workers on the job aren’t covered, (subcontractors) beware for your assets-you could lose everything you’ve worked all your life for.

It is a law of the state of Illinois that both of these policies are carried, if not, it puts the customer at risk if some one gets injured on their property. You may have a sense of false security if you think your home owners policy will cover some one if they get hurt and don’t have insurance. Always check with your insurance agent.

Are you, the consumer, aware that it is a law that the state requires you be given the Home Repair: Know Your Consumer Rights brochure for any work done over $500. There is also the federal law that says you must receive a notice of rescission. It tells you that there is a 3 day grace period if you chose to cancel a contract . This protects people from high pressure sales men that won’t leave your home until you sign up with them! There is no state contractors license in Illinois but roofing and plumbing contractors do have to be licensed.

If you hire some one by the hour, you are the employer. Be leery of any company that only gives a phone number or post office box or if they don’t have a company name and ask that the payment be written in their own name or ask for cash. Check with the Attorney General’s office to make sure there have not been complaints on some one you are thinking of hiring.

Remember, if the price sounds to good to be true, it probably is. The lowest bid is not always the best choice. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Your home is the most important investment you will make in your life. Make it last!
